About This Wine

Gilded Letter

Zinfandel

Gilding is a process for applying gold, and in doing so the artist adds more value to an object. The winemaker of Gilded Letter has done the same for this Zinfandel. Full-bodied with firm tannins, the wine is voluptuous and formidable at the same time. Our experts love the richness of the red fruit and chocolate notes, but the real complexity comes with the subtle hints of cracked black pepper and spice. This Lodi wine shines with food, the structure holding up to the hardiest flavors. We think that it will pair perfectly with glazed meats, barbecue, or a steak. It's gold all around! It took home Double Gold and a "Best of Lodi" awards at the 2018 Harvest Challenge, as well as Gold medals at the 2018 Denver International Wine Competition and at the 2018 Global Wine Awards. And Wine Enthusiast Magazine, one of the premier wine publications on the planet, recently sent it home with 87 points.

Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Chocolate tasting note. Chocolate
  • A figure representing the Black Cherry tasting note. Black Cherry

This jammy Zinfandel is big and full of flavor. Red fruits dominate, but the notes of black pepper and chocolate give the wine a complexity that's hard to resist. The juicy texture and sweetness compliment sweet glazes, barbecue, and steak.
