About This Wine

FogBreak

Pinot Blanc

Monterey is a beautifully unique growing location within California. It is considered a cool climate region thanks to the proximity to the Pacific Ocean and can also be incredibly warm at certain parts of the day. This shift in temperature allows fruit planted in the area to fully ripen during warmer moments and develop highly concentrated flavors and natural acidity in the cooler periods of the day. Delicate varietals thrive in this sort of environment as fruit does not bake in the sunshine thanks to the afternoon winds and foggy mornings, hence its namesake, FogBreak. Pinot Blanc, a white mutation of the Pinot Noir grape, is a perfect example of a varietal that succeeds in the region. A lesser-known white wine, Pinot Blanc is dry with a medium-bodied mouthfeel and features bright and fruity flavors that will make you go back for glass after glass. In the 2020 Harvest Challenge, one of few wine competitions held in 2020, our critics-pleasing Pinot Blanc brought home a total of four awards — Best of Monterey County, Best of Class, 98 points, and Double Gold. Our star-studded wine was also awarded 92 points from Wine Enthusiast! Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

Wine Region

Monterey County

Not to be confused with Monterey AVA, Monterey County is a larger designation that also includes the Carmel and San Antonio valleys, among others. Encompassing three distinct zones at the northern end of the Central Coast, Monterey County produces vast amounts of high-quality Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling and Pinot Gris. For reds, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon have often been replaced by Pinot Noir, Syrah and Grenache in recent years. These cooler-climate grapes achieve greatness through the influence of Monterey Bay, which pushes cold fogs and chilly afternoon winds down the Salinas Valley, tempering the sun's heat and allowing a long, moderate ripening season.

"Clean lines of crisp Asian pear and nectarine open the nose of this bottling. It's extremely textural on the palate, where a chalky grip frames flavors of jasmine, apple and pear." – Matt Kettmann, Wine Enthusiast Magazine
