About This Wine

Escapolita

Malbec

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking The magic begins to unfold after the harvest when violet clusters of ripe Malbec grapes are sorted to select the best fruit. Those chosen are tenderly crushed before the juice and grape skins mingle in cool temperatures for three days. Fermentation follows, taking place in stainless steel tanks to unlock Malbec’s pure, fruit driven character. Before bottling, the wine spends ten months on French oak to harmonize flavor and texture.

Vintage The 2021 vintage for Mendoza was slow and steady. The growing season was cooler than usual, meaning grapes stayed on the vine well into autumn to take advantage of warm, sunny days. The vineyard’s mix of sandy, stony soils held onto heat during this extended hang time, leading to the impeccable flavor concentration demonstrated by our Malbec. Harvest took place at night to preserve the gorgeous aromatics and acidity created by the season’s chilly weather, creating a stunning balance of strength and sophistication.

Pairing Logic Our smooth, oak-driven Malbec pairs exceptionally well with dishes that match its richness. Its sturdy tannins, acidity and spice notes complement juicy, char-grilled red meats like ribeye or lamb chops. For vegetarian dishes, choose recipes with robust flavors and textures, like roasted mushrooms, eggplant and legume stews, or creamy pasta. Match the wine’s balsamic notes using berry-based glazes, or play into its toasty, nutty aromas by topping your dish with aged cheeses like sharp cheddar or Gouda.

Wine Region

Mendoza

Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.
