About This Wine

Dutton Goldfield

Dutton Ranch Chardonnay

The 2018 season allowed Dutton Goldfield the luxury of picking exactly when they wanted—when the sugars and acids were in perfect alignment. The resulting wines have an excellent balance of lushness and crispness we love. In early spring, the blend is assembled with the primary lees and continues to age in French oak barrels through the summer. At Dutton Goldfield, they choose barrels to emphasize the wine's fruit and vineyard characteristics, rather than showcasing the oak itself. The ginger/nutmeg overtones and the buttercream components of the barrels complement the citrus focus of this wine. The wine is bottled in early Fall after approximately ten months in barrel and is delicious.

Dutton Goldfield 2018 Dutton Ranch Chardonnay Russian River Valley, California

Wine Region

Russian River Valley

Prized for its elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sonoma's Russian River Valley is one of California's premier AVAs for cool-climate wines. Blessed with the Petaluma Gap—a break in the coastal mountains where chill, foggy air blows in from the Pacific—the valley also benefits from the effects of the Russian River itself. This draws cool Pacific Ocean air inland and creates blanketing fogs that veil the vineyards throughout the chilly mornings. The result is one of the state's longest and coolest growing seasons. Bracing acidity and complex flavors characterize wines from this region, which also includes excellent sparklers made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Green Apple tasting note. Green Apple
  • A figure representing the Lemon tasting note. Lemon
  • A figure representing the Mineral tasting note. Mineral

The nose is lively with Meyer lemon, green apple, tangerine, with a lovely gardenia floral accent. There’s an oyster shell minerality to the aromas and a touch of fresh almond nuttiness. The finish is long and bright, lingering with a fresh yet creamy key lime pie note.
