About This Wine

Double Diamond

Cabernet Sauvignon

This stunning Oakville Cabernet was crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, who's absolutely at the top of his game. Double Diamond sourced their 2018 exclusively from prime vineyards in Oakville, and each site contributed its own set of unique characteristics. Sourced from the same famed vineyards as its beloved inspiration Schrader Cellars, Double Diamond is a truly captivating Cabernet Sauvignon, derived from over a century of legendary winemaking tradition. It's definitely a harmonious integration of decadent fruit, refined structure, and exotic spice components.

Double Diamond 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville, California

Wine Region

Oakville

One of the most highly esteemed wine districts in the United States, Oakville is at the heart of the Napa Valley and is renowned for its red dirt and near-perfect climate. Warmer than Yountville and Stag's Leap but cooler than Rutherford, producers in Oakville can craft deeply flavored wines full of nuance. Merlot and Zinfandel thrive here, but the standout grape is, of course, Cabernet Sauvignon. Oakville has a surprisingly large concentration of producers making "cult status" Cab Sauv with loyal followers. The AVA's zingy, tropical-tasting Chardonnay and zesty Sauvignon Blanc are also highlights.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Mint tasting note. Mint
  • A figure representing the Chocolate tasting note. Chocolate
  • A figure representing the Blackcurrant tasting note. Blackcurrant

In the glass, the wine possesses a dark plum-purple hue. Intriguing aromatic notes of Mexican chocolate, nutmeg, brambly fruit, spearmint, and violets swell from the glass in concert. Upon entry, the mouthfeel is voluptuous, sleek, and inviting while also exhibiting a silky tannin profile to provide a complex framework. Rich palate notes suggest blackcurrant, blackberry reduction, leather, crushed rock, and allspice. This wine is very enjoyable and showing well today, but with 3-5 years in the cellar, it will develop into an even more beautiful expression of the vintage.
