About This Wine

Domaine Drouhin

Pinot Noir

The Drouhin family is well established in Burgundy, the home of Pinot Noir. So it’s no surprise that when they looked to expand, they saw the promise of vineyards in Oregon. They have consistently released popular wines that have helped to raise the reputation of Oregon winemaking. The grapes for this release are handpicked, hand-sorted, and taken off the stems at the winery. They carefully ferment and age in oak barrels made in Burgundy. The philosophical emphasis in making this wine is to showcase terroir. The result is a beautifully balanced wine that has equal parts fruit, elegant tannin, and a long finish. Drink now or cellar for five to ten years!

Domaine Drouhin 2017 Pinot Noir Dundee Hills, Oregon

Wine Region

Dundee Hills

The Dundee Hills appellation in Willamette Valley is one of the most idyllic locations for grape growing on the West Coast. It is Dundee Hills that truly put Oregon wines on the map and helped enhance its worldwide reputation. The region is protected from the Pacific Ocean’s influence by the Coast Mountain Range to the west, which causes most of the rainfall to arrive after the growing season. Because of the elevation of the area, vineyards also benefit from warmer nights and less frost and fog than those on adjacent valley floors.

The wine offers a fragrant nose of bright black cherries, berry bramble, orange peel, golden brown spices, and a touch of sweet oak. Layered behind are notes of red berries and rhubarb. Flavors of red plum, boysenberry, and cassis mingle with a savory trio of white pepper, forest floor, and sassafras.
