About This Wine

Domaine Abeille

Heritage Red

This release just took home a double-gold medal from at the 2018 North of the Gate Wine Competition!

The Domaine Abeille Heritage Red is a special wine. Comprised of 95% Petit Verdot this wine has unique and intriguing flavors that can only come from the Old World grape. Strong aromas of black fruit bolster the herbal and floral tastes in the wine. The winemakers at Domaine Abeille focus on terroir-driven wines, wines that are made better by cross-pollination from the local bee colony. Petit Verdot showcases the floral notes of violet, lilac, lavender, and sage. Our experts have loved drinking it with fresh fruits and vegetables alongside a charcuterie board.

Region:
There aren’t many wine regions in the world more diverse than California. The warm days and cool nights are perfect for producing concentrated and expressive grapes over the long growing season. With vineyards on the sea-swept Central Coast; the mountainous, jagged terrain of Northern California; and the storied plots of Napa, winemakers can be exacting in choosing the specific climate and terroir they are looking for when making their wines. With nutrient-rich soils and scores of different microclimates, California is a gift to ambitious winemakers.

Tasting Notes:
This wine is opaque and vivid purple in color, with mouth-watering aromas of blackberry and boysenberry. Notes of caramel and toffee, as well as chocolate, enhance the oak profile. It has a medium to full body, and a rich texture with soft, creamy tannins.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
