About This Wine

Domaine Abeille

Red Wine

Winning Best of Class for house reds at the 2017 West Coast Wine Competition, Domaine Abeille 2014 is a lovely example of the best Napa Valley has to offer. A critical sensation, Domaine Abeille has also taken awards including taking the 93 points and a Gold Medal at the 2016 Sommelier Challenge International Wine & Spirits Competition. The first wineries began popping up in California’s Napa Valley nearly 150 years ago, and in that time the area has matured from a rustic frontier of pioneer-winemakers to one of the world’s finest and most celebrated regions. Ideal climates mix with hearty nutrient dense soil to produce the lush, healthy grapes perfect for making red wines.

The Domaine Abeille 2014 combines Merlot with small amounts of Tempranillo and Grenache to produce a truly distinctive wine. On the nose, the Merlot expresses aromas of deep red fruits and black cherry. The Grenache builds on this profile with delicate hints of licorice and black pepper. In the mouth, the Merlot leads with the same fruit flavors, which are softened by the Tempranillo's accents of plum and deepened by the bold raisin flavoring of the Grenache.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
