About This Wine

Common Phenomena

Field Blend

Our Common Phenomena Field Blend epitomizes the beauty of unique grape varieties coexisting in harmony. Much like the diverse vineyards that comprise this blend, this wine offers layers of nuanced complexity. Enticing spice transcends subtle notes of red fruit while elegant tannins and gentle acidity make this wine bright and approachable. The friendly nature of this blend is thanks to its primary grape, Merlot. In the warm climate of Lodi, Merlot takes advantage of cooling breezes from the nearby San Francisco Bay. In doing so, this adaptable grape maintains a cool-climate style despite warm temperatures during the growing season. The result is a light wine that makes the perfect companion to early evening strolls. Like most reds, our blend is delightful when served at room temperature; however, due to its lighter character, it’s also enjoyable when slightly chilled for a refreshing experience of red fruit. Common Phenomena 2017 Field Blend Lodi, California

Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Pomegranate tasting note. Pomegranate
  • A figure representing the Spices tasting note. Spices

Fruit is not the stylistic focus of this blend. Instead, spice takes the lead with stimulating aromas of black pepper and cooking spices. The palate is soft and lean with tart flavors of raspberry and pomegranate. Enjoy a glass paired with soft cheeses and salty, cured meats.
