About This Wine

Clos Du Val

Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

Clos Du Val has a long and storied history. Their inaugural wine, the 1972 Clos Du Val Cabernet Sauvignon, was part of the legendary group that toppled the best wines France had to offer in the 1976 Judgement of Paris and even took first place in the rematch ten years later. The winery is still producing incredible wines, and the 2015 Estate Cabernet is no exception.

2015 was a warm vintage, but with early rain that washed the pollen off flowering grapes, the bunches were left with less ripe fruit at harvest time. While this can ruin a vintage, in 2015, it was fortuitous, and the low yields left grapes that are incredibly concentrated and delicious.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.

Tasting Notes

  • A figure representing the Oak tasting note. Oak
  • A figure representing the Blueberry tasting note. Blueberry

This Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is brimming with classic characteristics of cassis, bramble fruit, and blueberry. The hints of butterscotch on the long, smooth finish are a giveaway of the new, carefully selected French oak barrel influence.
