About This Wine

Chateau Montelena

Cabernet Sauvignon

The history of Chateau Montelena speaks for itself. With a pedigree that sits above almost all other wineries in the Napa Valley, you can expect great things from this wine. The wine is crafted from Montelena estate and prime neighboring vineyards located in the northern end of the Napa Valley, in and around Calistoga, next to primary or secondary tributaries of the Napa River. More specifically, each site has been selected for just the right soils, which provide an earthy, complex, and concentrated Cabernet Sauvignon. The fine tannins that come from the grapes and 16 months in oak bolster the spice flavors that lend to the wine's complexity—a delicious wine to drink now or cellar for a few years.

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.

  • A figure representing the Raspberry tasting note. Raspberry
  • A figure representing the Brown Fig tasting note. Brown Fig

Beautifully vibrant notes of cocoa, raspberry jam, and fig highlight the fresh bouquet that settles down into spices and earth. The wine is viscous and concentrated while still showcasing the fruit and fine tannins. The finish is laser-focused and mineral-driven.
