About This Wine

Cartesian

Red Wine Blend

Varietal: Red Wine Blend
Vintage: 2013
Alcohol By Volume: 14%
Region: California
Winemaker: Joe Otos
MSRP: $20.00

Blending wines is a combination of science and art, requiring a lifetime of expertise to master, so it was fitting that renowned California winemaker Joe Otos' latest award-winning blend be titled Cartesian. Named for the inspiring work of French mathematician and philosopher René Descartes, Cartesian is sourced from the best vineyards across California. Including an impressive seven grape varieties, Joe has delicately balanced the unique flavors of each into a unified whole.

REGION:

Featuring grapes selected from the unique California terroirs best suited for each varietal, Cartesian is derived from 5 different and diverse California appellations, including fruit from the cool Pacific microclimate of the North Coast AVA and the heritage Zinfandel grapes of Paso Robles.

WINEMAKER:

Simply put, Joe Otos has a reputation for making great wine. One of the most acclaimed winemakers working in California today, his wines have won a number of gold medals, 90+ point scores, and strong reviews. More importantly to us, though, his wines have consistently topped the list of our members' favorite wines throughout 2016.

TASTING NOTES:

On the palate, lush, rich tannins form the core of the tasting experience with opulent red fruit flavors. Plum and black cherry help to round out the wine with a bit of acidity, giving the wine a perfect balance and structure. Vibrant, fruity, and immensely drinkable this wine is perfect for serving as an aperitif or alongside dinner with friends.

Wine Region

California

California is one of the most diverse winegrowing regions in the world. Spanning 850 miles along North America's west coast—and inland across mountains and valleys—California's American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) cover a dizzying array of terroir. The cold, deep waters of the Pacific Ocean play a major role in cooling California's vineyards, sending fog and chilly air up to 100 miles inland. This tempers the daytime heat and allows grapes to ripen slowly but fully. Cooler-climate grape varieties thrive closest to the sea, while further inland, bigger, bolder wines prevail.
