About This Wine

Calstar Cellars

Pinot Noir

Combining the juicy acidity, floral fruit tones and spicy aroma of cooler climate grapes with the richness and depth of warmer vineyards, this distinctive Pinot Noir is an expression of its unique blend of terroir. The climate around the chosen vineyards is heavily influenced by maritime effects; the summer coastal fog supports a long, slow ripening period. This keeps the grapes from over-ripening, and, therefore, losing the balance between sugar and acidity that makes for a perfect wine grape. The unusual coolness permits a later harvest, giving a distinguishing richness to the wines of this region. Since 2001, Calstar Cellars has been producing unique, hand-crafted wines from grapes sourced by California’s most exclusive and acclaimed vineyards. Calstar’s focus is on producing fine wines for the dinner table, and this lovely Pinot Noir does not disappoint. On the nose, this wine leads with tart fruit notes of cranberry, raspberry, and pomegranate that are rounded out with notes of dark chocolate and baking spices. In the mouth, the wine is dry and carried by the red fruit notes following the aroma.

Wine Region

Russian River Valley

Prized for its elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sonoma's Russian River Valley is one of California's premier AVAs for cool-climate wines. Blessed with the Petaluma Gap—a break in the coastal mountains where chill, foggy air blows in from the Pacific—the valley also benefits from the effects of the Russian River itself. This draws cool Pacific Ocean air inland and creates blanketing fogs that veil the vineyards throughout the chilly mornings. The result is one of the state's longest and coolest growing seasons. Bracing acidity and complex flavors characterize wines from this region, which also includes excellent sparklers made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
