About This Wine

Calchas

Lightly Sweet Cabernet Sauvignon

Calchas translates to "the dark one" and is best interpreted as having a sense of pondering. It's also the perfect way to describe this 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon from Horse Heaven Hills winegrowing region nestled along the southern edge of Washington state and adjacent to the Yakima River. With each sip, allow your mind to wander as you experience a succulent display of concentrated fruit. Ripe and jammy black cherry notes fly overhead while a more profound, darker plum reduction intensifies these sweet fruit flavors mingled with dried violet, plush tannins and an underlying earthiness. The dry, northern climate in Columbia Valley, Washington, allows these thick-skinned grapes to take advantage of a long growing season. As time passes, this fruit ripens undisturbed into early autumn. This allows for the slow progression of rich fruit flavors and pushes harvest back in colder temperatures, thereby preserving the grape's natural acids. The outcome is lush fruit with a touch of balancing acidity, deep layered flavors, and a sweet plush smoothness from start to finish. Wine Region

Horse Heaven Hills

Home to multiple 100 point wines, Horse Heaven Hills is nestled in the southeastern corner of Washington and is a hidden jewel amidst the vast landscape of the Pacific Northwest. Primarily known for reds, wines from the region are exciting and vibrant. Vineyards are planted along the banks of the Columbia River and on hillsides ranging from 300 feet to 1800 feet elevation. Despite the proximity to the river, the land is extremely dry. Heavy winds force grapes to work harder for nutrients and as a result, they develop highly concentrated fruit flavors.
