About This Wine

Cakebread Cellars

Chardonnay

Sourced from their Carneros vineyard in Napa Valley, the 2018 vintage enjoyed early rains and a mild summer. The quality of this Chardonnay starts in the vineyard and harvest practices. Nightime harvesting in the cooler evening air allows the grapes to retain their natural freshness and acidity. Hand-picking grape clusters allow for careful selection of only the grapes at their peak. Quality continues through the winemaking and aging process. Pressed in French oak barrels and stainless steel for full fermentation and aged for at least eight months builds depth, texture, and body.

Cakebread Cellars 2018 Chardonnay Napa Valley, California

Wine Region

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
