About This Wine
Brassfield Estates
Eruption Red Blend
Over the past 30 years, David Ramey has developed a reputation as one of the most influential and innovative winemakers in California. And his work with the winery Brassfield Estates is some of his best; bringing together a creative genius with a savvy, renowned winery. But don’t take our word for it— just one sip of Volcano Ridge Vineyard’s 2013 Eruption and you’ll understand why Ramey and Brassfield’s incredible wine was rated 92 points from Wine Enthusiast.
Volcano Ridge, one of Brassfield’s signature vineyards, is located on the fecund volcanic soils of California’s High Valley, more than 2000 feet above sea level. While the volcanic quality of the soil restricts grape production, the decrease in quantity leads to an increase in the amount nutrients and sunlight concentrated in the fruit produced. This translates into incomparably vibrant wines that are flavorful from the first taste.
But, then, it’s no surprise that a wine called Eruption is bursting with flavor.
Even so, while it’s composed mostly of Malbec and Syrah, powerful varietals that give the wine it’s signature flourish, smaller quantities of Mourvedre and Petite Sirah are also added to give the wine a depth and subtlety beyond the initial tasting. In the mouth, a riot of blueberries and mixed berries cascade through the senses, followed by hints of tobacco leaf and toasted vanilla. This wine has a profound, elegant finish that will make you want to savor it down to the last drop.
