About This Wine

Bonfilia

Sangiovese

Make room at your table this holiday season for a "Best of Class," Double Gold Medal-winning, 96 point wine!
We invite you to experience artistry generations in the making. Our Bonfilia — meaning "good daughter" — Sangiovese captures the flavor of Italian history, having been crafted from one of Italy's oldest grape varieties. This rustic wine is savory, with an enticing earthiness and lively acidity countered by subtle red fruit flavors. The Puglia IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) makes up the heel of Italy's boot. Here, the hot Mediterranean climate is moderated by the cool, crystal blue waters of the Adriatic and Ionian seas. These conditions nurture the development of Sangiovese's fresh red fruit flavors while conserving its naturally high levels of acidity. This results in a traditional Old World style that leans more towards structured and austere than plump and fruity. Just like its brothers and sisters, our classic, food-friendly Italian red was made to be enjoyed at the dinner table surrounded by family and friends. Bonfilia 2019 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

Wine Region

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
