About This Wine

Bodewell

Pinotage

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking Winemakers age the wine in 30% new, high-toast French oak barrels to impart depth and complexity. The elevated toast level brings out rich notes of spice, smoke, and roasted coffee, enhancing the wine’s natural intensity. This carefully measured oak influence adds structure without overwhelming the fruit. The result is a bold, layered expression with a lingering, textured finish.

Vintage The 2024 vintage was marked by a temperate spring and a long, even ripening season, allowing for optimal vineyard expression. A dry summer with cool nights preserved freshness while encouraging slow, steady development on the vine. Harvest arrived in late September under ideal conditions, with fruit showing excellent structure and concentration. In the cellar, 30% new high-toast French oak was selected to complement the vintage’s natural depth and character.

Pairing Logic This richly layered Pinotage is a natural partner for grilled meats, smoky barbecue, and dishes featuring roasted coffee or cocoa-based rubs. Its bold dryness and structured presence complement hearty fare like lamb, brisket, or portobello mushrooms, while the wine’s mulberry and mocha notes shine alongside earthy root vegetables and charred eggplant. For a refined touch, incorporate dark chocolate or balsamic reductions to echo the wine’s lingering finish and enhance its elegant depth.

Bodewell 2024 Pinotage Western Cape, South Africa

Wine Region

Western Cape

The majority of South Africa's best wines are produced in the southwest coastal zones around Cape Town, known collectively as the Western Cape. Sandwiched between the country's majestic mountains and its cooling ocean coasts (the Atlantic to the west of the Cape of Good Hope, the Indian Ocean to its east), the Western Cape offers a wealth of winemaking riches. Regions here include the Breede River Valley, Cape South Coast, Coastal Region, Klein Karoo and Olifants River.
