About This Wine

Bodegas Viceroyalty

Pinot Noir

This exceptional wine is part of our Fine Wine Collection.

Winemaking Through the challenges of 2020, our determination to uphold Chile’s reputation as the master of consistency drove each decision in our winemaking process. By quickly harvesting our grapes, 90 percent by machine and 10 percent by hand, we captured the optimum balance of flavor and freshness. To further accentuate this, fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks under controlled temperatures before oak introduced a touch of toasty nuance without dulling our Pinot Noir’s juicy, fruit-forward character.

Vintage The 2020 harvest is one for the books as this vintage faced each end of the extreme weather spectrum. Thankfully, experienced grape growers know how to make nature’s obstacles work in their favor. With lower yields due to spring frosts and summer’s drought-like conditions, flavor concentration skyrocketed as ripening sped up. This called for an early harvest as winemakers monitored the grapes closely, waiting for the opportune moment when natural sugars, flavors and acids reached sublime equilibrium.

Pairing Logic This Pinot Noir offers richer fruit flavors and bolder tannins than lighter styles, meaning it will stand up to flavorful foods. Tender cuts of poultry, pork or beef will highlight the wine’s concentrated flavors as its tannins break down meaty proteins. While most vegetables will pair well, this Pinot’s flavors are dense and ripe, as opposed to fresh. This makes cooked veggies the best choice over raw. Season your dish with salt, fruit-based glazes and marinades.

Bodegas Viceroyalty 2020 Pinot Noir Maule Valley DO, Chile

Wine Region

Maule Valley

When it comes to well-balanced reds of great value, Chile's Maule Valley is hard to beat. The southernmost part of Chile's Central Valley, Maule is a large sub-region with many microclimates and soil types. The Maule River and the nearby Pacific Ocean both greatly influence its climate. Maule was one of the first places in Chile planted with grapevines. It is famed today for its 100-year-old Carignan vines and the densely sumptuous wines they produce. More typical, however, are its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon, spicy aromatic Carménère and plush Merlot reds. For whites, check out Maule's cheery Sauvignon Blanc and rounded Chardonnay. Chile’s Denominación de Origen (DO) classification system focuses on separating wines by the physical location of origin. To use the DO classification on a label, a producer must have pulled 85 percent of the fruit used in a wine from a defined regional location. The DO system names wine regions in the country from north to south.
