About This Wine

Beringer

Zinfandel

Among the pioneers of California winemaking of it’s hard to find a more enduring example than the Beringer family. Starting with the two Beringer brothers in 1876, these enterprising siblings established one of the first vineyards in Napa Valley, with a foresight into the region's potential. Since then, Beringer has pursued balance between modern technology and ancient winemaking tradition, producing only delicious, high-quality wines along the way. One of the oldest surviving wineries in California, it remains a monument to the spirit of innovation that made northern California the epicenter of American winemaking.

The 2013 Zinfandel is a testament to the Beringer legacy. The grapes were harvested from the Red Hills, a growing region with an ideal climate for growing Zinfandel grapes. 2013, in particular, was an excellent year with heat spikes in the late summer followed by light rains, which lead to flavorful, perfectly ripe fruit. In the nose, plum and black cherry aromas are balanced by a hint of pepper. In the mouth, blackberry and bright cherry flavors meld with notes of clove and cinnamon to create a balanced, lengthy finish.

Wine Region

Lake County

It might be called Lake County, but it is actually volcanoes that give this rugged northern California region its distinct terroir. Part of the North Coast AVA, Lake County lies just north of Napa. Ancient, mineral-rich soils help deliver bold but impressively elegant reds such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel, and whites like Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The vines benefit from the maritime conditions around Clear Lake—California's largest body of fresh water. Its influence brings low nighttime temperatures to balance the hot days, slowing the grapes' ripening and producing wines with intensely concentrated flavors.
