About This Wine

Benegas

Finca Libertad Estate Red Wine

Since 1883, the Bodega Benegas vineyard and winery has been at the forefront of Argentina’s wine culture. The Benegas family was instrumental in growing and harnessing the unprecedented wine boom in the Mendoza region, setting a template that other wineries have tried to emulate to this day. Today, Federico Benegas Lynch continues this pioneering work, bringing fine, highly-acclaimed Argentinian wines to the world.

The Benegas Estate Finca Libertad 2009 is a fine red wine, which blends near equal parts of aged Carbernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot to produce a truly unique sensory experience. On the nose, the three varietals produce a fragrant mélange of aromatic expressions. Rich with a bouquet of red and black fruits, the Cabernet Sauvignon expresses itself most vibrantly. But just beneath this, the roasted red pepper of Cabernet Franc mingles with the soft cherry of the Merlot to delight the senses. From all three come herbal notes which gently bind the other aromas together for a single sensuous experience.

In the mouth, this deep red wine pervades the palate with ripe and juicy flavors, strongly accented by its vivacious aromas. These fruit flavors are rounded out by smoky notes derived from a year of aging in French oak barrels. The flavor is lasting and persistent, leading to a long, elegant finish.

Wine Region

Mendoza

Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.
