Avistelle

Pinot Gris

Varietal: Pinot Gris
Region: Lodi, California
Winemaker: Joe Otos

MSRP: $16.00

The Avistelle is one of the best white wines we've ever had in the club. Not only was it awarded 91 points and a gold medal at the 2017 Critic's Challenge, it is one of our all-time member favorites. Made by California winemaker Joe Otos, this wine harnesses the terroir of Lodi. As usual, his meticulous attention to detail resulted in a delightful Pinot Gris with intriguing minerality, great body, and crisp acidity. The Avistelle 2016 PInot Gris has aromas of spring flowers and tropical citrus blossoms. With leading notes of green melon, guava, and ripe peach, this is a great wine to start an evening.

WINEMAKER:

Joe Otos is a genius of California wine, creating blends that convey the unique identity of each of the state’s finest appellations. With over 25 gold medals to his name in the past year alone, Joe’s deep knowledge of California’s distinct microclimates and terroirs is evident in every sip.

TASTING NOTES:

Avistelle entices with notes of spring flowers and tropical citrus blossoms intermingled with flavors of green melon, guava and ripe peach. This zippy Pinot Gris has brilliant acidity and a clean refreshing finish.

Wine Region

Lodi

The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.
