About This Wine

Aurélien Verdet

Blanc Hautes-Côtes de Nuits

Across the globe, Burgundy’s white wines are often considered to be the finest wines produced from the Chardonnay grape, and this bottle is no exception. With vineyards throughout Burgundy’s famed Cote d’Or, Aurélian Verdet has a strong commitment to farming without use of chemical pesticides or fertilizers. This dedication to raising vines in balance with nature is a family affair: Aurélian Verdet continues the legacy set forth by his father Alain, who was one of the first winemakers in Burgundy to eschew the use of chemicals in farming. The family’s reverence for the craft and the land carries over to their winemaking: The wines ferment naturally without the use of added yeasts, producing flavors that are more distinct and pure. Following this, they then aged in mostly used oak barrels, allowing the wine to integrate and develop a greater breadth and depth of flavor. 2009 was a notable vintage in Burgundy, and the favorable weather conditions produced extremely healthy fruit, which means the wine was able to age in its bottle as well.

This fully mature white Burgundy is firm and full-bodied, but with a strong backbone of crisp acidity, carrying notes of lime with the predominant apple and pear flavors. Savory and spicy notes provide an enticing counterpoint, and its weight and depth of flavor carry a persistent yet clean finish.

Wine Region

Burgundy

Burgundy is the spiritual home of many of today's favorite winemaking styles. Steeped in history and prestige, it is the source of some of the most expensive wines in the world. A sprawling collection of tiny winemaking provinces (made up of over 100 different appellations), Burgundy is where the world's premier Chardonnay and Pinot Noir wines originated. Regions and subregions like Pouilly-Fuissé, Vosne-Romanée, Chassagne-Montrachet exude grandeur and opulence. While Burgundy is centered around a hallowed limestone escarpment known as the Côte d'Or, it actually stretches 200 miles, from Chablis just southeast of Paris, down to the Beaujolais plains above Lyon.
