With your first sip, Argiolas 2015 Costamolino Vermentino transports you to the white sandy beaches of Sardinia through the fragrance of macchia, the mix of evergreen plants and herbs unique to the island. Costamolino has received honors from publications including Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast every year since 2011, and the 2015 vintage is sure to follow suit. Vermentino is the definitive wine of Sardinia, a bright and refreshing white wine that evokes the turquoise clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

WINEMAKERS:

Argiolas is the foremost winery on the island of Sardinia, producing archetypal wines from native varietals. Founded in 1938 by Antonio Argiolas, it is now a third-generation family estate, with a focus on producing small batches of the highest quality wine. Argiolas has a tradition of critical success, and Costamolino has received honors from publications including Wine Advocate, Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast every year since 2011.

REGION:

Located 200 miles to the west of Italy’s mainland, Sardinia is the second-largest island in the Mediterranean. Costamolino Vermentino is made from grapes grown in the Trexenta hills, 1,000 feet above sea-level, where the windy climate provides a cooling balance to the region’s hot weather. This allows the grapes to develop their rich, fruit flavors throughout the warm days while preserving their natural acids during the cool nights.

TASTING NOTES: Vermentino is the best way to experience macchia, the mix of aromas from the evergreen shrubs and herbs native to the Sardinian landscape. Costamolino also hints at aromas of pine and mint coupled with flavors of ripe stone fruit and sweet citrus. The palate is at once vibrant and textural and finishes with lingering acidity.

Italy

While France takes the crown for the most famous wines styles and grape varieties, Italy is where wine was first perfected. The ancient Greeks called it Oenotria—"land of the vines"—and the Roman Empire advanced grape growing and winemaking to a level of quality we still enjoy today. But behind Italy's best-known wines, such as Chianti, Barolo and prosecco, there's an almost endless diversity of delights awaiting the intrepid explorer. The key to understanding Italian wine is regionality and (of course) food. From the aromatic and sparkling whites of the north to Sicily's rich and spicy reds, Italy offers wine lovers a lifetime of gastronomic treats.
