About This Wine

Apeloko

Pinotage

Our Apeloko Pinotage honors its South African winemaking heritage with intense oak-driven spice and caramelized sweetness. This wine shows the skillful hand of the winemaker, as each flavorful sip has been crafted with intention to create a complex result that seems effortless. Since its creation in 1925, Pinotage has stolen the show as South Africa’s signature grape variety. Here in the Western Cape, our winemaking partners work with bush-trained vines and non-irrigated vineyards to produce wines that are the ultimate expression of the region’s unique terroir. This hardy crossing of Cinsault and Pinot Noir tends to lean bold, and must be crafted with care to manage its potentially high tannins. Our 2020 vintage is a delectable example of this grape done right. Pour yourself a glass, and let’s toast to the hardworking hands that filled it. Wine Region

Western Cape

The majority of South Africa's best wines are produced in the southwest coastal zones around Cape Town, known collectively as the Western Cape. Sandwiched between the country's majestic mountains and its cooling ocean coasts (the Atlantic to the west of the Cape of Good Hope, the Indian Ocean to its east), the Western Cape offers a wealth of winemaking riches. Regions here include the Breede River Valley, Cape South Coast, Coastal Region, Klein Karoo and Olifants River.
