About This Wine

Aculina

Sangiovese

Our Aculina Sangiovese personifies Italian culture. As the newest addition to this “Best of Class” brand, this food-friendly
wine offers inviting floral aromas, bright red fruit flavors, and complex savory characteristics. Sangiovese is one of Italy’s oldest and most beloved grape varieties due to its vivid textures, pairing abilities, and aging potential. This native Italian grape is right at home in the vineyards of Puglia. As the heel of Italy’s boot, this region benefits from a warm, dry climate with cooling breezes from the surrounding Mediterranean Sea. Here, you’ll find the local wines served alongside regional delicacies like freshly baked focaccia drizzled with olive oil and topped with mozzarella. With our Aculina Sangiovese, we invite you to channel some Italian inspiration for your next dinner party as you host an evening centered around the beauty of food and wine. Aculina 2019 Sangiovese Puglia IGT, Italy

Wine Region

Puglia

The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.

  • A figure representing the Cherry tasting note. Cherry
  • A figure representing the Plum tasting note. Plum

Powerful aromas of fresh violets join scents of oak and tobacco. The palate is rich and textural with moderate acidity and firm tannins. Bright cherry flavors greet the front of the palate before evolving to deeper notes of ripe red plum with a bitey, food-ready finish.
