1/3 Washington is one of the latest additions to our diverse portfolio of wines. This exciting new brand has two debut releases, Syrah and Chardonnay. Crafted from Washington's well-known Columbia Valley, this light and creamy Chardonnay offers an elegant balance of fresh, green fruit flavor and subtle oak influence. If you are expecting a buttery Chardonnay, you won't find it here. This wine was lightly touched by oak to create soft, honeyed characteristics, like caramelized fruit. It is an excellent choice for those who love fruit-forward and refreshing white wines seeking a touch more complexity. The name 1/3 Washington is a nod to Washington's renowned Columbia Valley AVA which covers roughly one-third of the state. This Chardonnay is a delicious example of the quality found in this impressive region and an enticing taste of what this new brand has in store. Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.
