Columbia Valley, Washington
An enchanting performance of ripe fruit flavors
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Working Title Winery
Merlot
This rich, fruit-forward Merlot dictates the compelling narrative of how the most arduous struggles can create the most beautiful outcomes. Sheltered in the Columbia Valley AVA in Washington, these vines grow on sunbaked south-facing slopes. Rainfall here is scarce, which forces the vine to redirect its energy from focusing on canopy growth and high volumes of fruit production to nurturing only a small number of clusters. This narrowed focus increases the flavor concentration in each berry. The result is a lower yield but a higher quality of fruit. With respect to the vine's struggle, winemakers use careful winemaking practices and just the right amount of oak to highlight the ripe fruit flavors and craft a complex finished product that is sure to make a lasting impression on those who experience it. With each sip, we invite you to follow the story of a vine's battle against the envir ...

WINE REGION:
Columbia Valley
Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.
