Our Whipstitch Cabernet Sauvignon offers a classic taste of Lodi with bright red fruit flavors and dark undertones layered with complex characteristics brought forth by oak aging. As a “Best of Class” winning brand, Whipstitch is committed to crafting excellent expressions of California’s inland winegrowing regions. Lodi enjoys a Mediterranean climate with long dry summers where daily temperatures often exceed 90° Fahrenheit. While most inland wine regions miss out on the Pacific Ocean’s cooling influence, Lodi is an exception. Thanks to a large gap in California’s Coastal Ranges created by the Sacramento–San Joaquin River Delta, warm days are often cooled by afternoon Delta Breezes. This mediates high temperatures and protects fruit from over-ripening. The jewel of the Central Valley, Lodi lies just east of the California Delta in an area of varied terroir. Winemakers here can extract different grape variety expressions from each plot of land. Zinfandel is common here, making deeply fruity and tantalizingly smoky wines, often from old vines. But the deep loamy soils and balmy Mediterranean climate, with its warm days and cool nights, help keep Lodi's grape varieties and winemaking styles impressively diverse. Alongside the ubiquitous Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Merlot and Viognier also thrive. Lodi is a melting pot of different grape varieties and winemaking techniques, all of which make it a rewarding region to explore.
