Willamette Valley in Oregon is considered to be one of the premier wine growing regions in the world. The Coast Range to the west protects the valley from storms coming off the Pacific Ocean, while the Cascade Mountains to the east draw a boundary between the cooler climate valley weather and the dry, desert-like environment in the eastern part of the state. Famously rumored to be cold and rainy all year, the region actually experiences a diurnal temperature shift during the growing season with morning fog veils and sunny skies in the afternoons.
