Wente Vineyards

Chardonnay

Beautifully rich yet balanced, this 91-point award winner is a distinctly California-style Chardonnay from the winner of the first ever Legendary Family of Chardonnay Award, an honor bestowed upon Wente Family Estates by The International Chardonnay Symposium. From the famed Arroyo Seco region, this vintage displays deep fruit aromas and flavors. Barrel aging gives it a hint of oaky flavor mixed with buttery notes and a touch of vanilla. "A Chard with lovely balance—just enough toast, butter, and vanilla on the rich palate, with excellent acidity to keep the package bright. Think lemon brûlée served in an apple orchard just after a rain." Sara Schneider, Sunset Magazine.

Due to state registrations, we cannot ship this wine to CT.

WINE REGION:

Outline of Arroyo Seco

Arroyo Seco

Lying in the middle of the Salinas Valley, the under-appreciated Arroyo Seco AVA is a beacon of cool-climate winemaking in Monterey County. Its vineyards—especially those to the east—are buffeted for much of the day by cold Pacific winds and shrouded by fog. This combines to give Arroyo Seco an extremely long growing season. Soils throughout the AVA are stony, and these stones absorb sunlight to provide additional heat to the vines. While winemakers face a challenging growing environment, the effort is worth it, as the area produces superbly balanced Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling; intriguing Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon perform well in the western part of the AVA.
