Watchful Maker

Chardonnay

Try our Columbia Valley Chardonnay, which just won a Double Gold Medal at the 2022 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition!
In the wine world, Chardonnay has long been referred to as the "winemaker's grape." This popular variety is not only one of the most adaptable in terms of preferred climate and soil type, but it is also varied in the structure and flavor of its wines. These characteristics spell perfection to Watchful Maker's highly awarded winemaking team. This decadent Columbia Valley Chardonnay demonstrates the important impact of location along with every skillful choice of the winemaker as they nurture the wine from grape to bottle. The dry, arid conditions of this AVA's desert-like environment brought forth Chardonnay's warm-climate flavor profile with ripe stone fruit. With that as the base, the winemakers used tasteful oak to round out the palate and add toast ...

WINE REGION:

Outline of Columbia Valley

Columbia Valley

Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.

Crème Brûlée

On the nose, primary aromas of clementine and Asian pear allude to the grape’s sun-soaked growing conditions. As you move on to the full-bodied palate, you’ll discover creamy flavors of Crème Brûlée, butterscotch, and caramel from oak influence.
