ABOUT THIS WINE:
Turkey Flat
Butchers Block Red Wine
While Turkey Flat Vineyards has only been in business for a couple decades, the Schultz family’s connection to the land, and to Australian wine, stretches back a century. The first Shiraz grapes were planted in Australia in 1847 on the land that now forms the core of the Turkey Flat winery. Since purchasing the land in 1865, the Schultz family has tended to the vines and used generations of winemaking expertise to craft some of the finest wines in the Barossa Valley. Christie Schultz, the proprietor, continues that proud legacy with wines that capture the essence of the Australian wild and harken back to her family’s long history on the land.
The 2014 Butchers Block Red is an elegant blend composed half of Shiraz grapes picked from the vineyard’s century old vines, and half of Grenache and Mataro grapes. It leads with a deliciously sweet aromatic medley of dark plums, spices, ...

WINE REGION:
Barossa
One of Australia's best-known wine regions, the Barossa Valley sits an hour north of Adelaide, where many of the country's most famous wineries are based. In this historic region, old bush vines—some dating back as far as 1860—produce full-bodied wines of dramatic depth and scope, principally from Shiraz, Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. But Shiraz is the region's most popular varietal, with "Barossa Shiraz" almost a recognized brand in its own right, due to its concentrated flavors of juicy black fruit, plush tannins and the sweet spice of American oak. But whites are equally classy here, too, with Barossa's fresh, unoaked Sémillons and always captivating lush Chardonnays.
