Columbia Valley, Washington
A mouthwateringly bright 96 point Pinot Gris from Washington
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Trailstone
Pinot Gris
The Columbia Valley in Washington is nestled in the central part of the state and sits in the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains. This location creates an environment that is more desert-like than the wet and gray reputation that the Pacific Northwest typically boasts. With bright sunny days and cooler temperatures at night, the region is considered one of the premier wine-growing appellations in the US. Varietals that thrive in drier climates do incredibly well here—thanks to warm days, fruit can fully ripen, but cooler evenings give ample time to develop natural acidity and concentrated flavors. Our 2019 Trailstone Pinot Gris is surprisingly complex. Winemaking chose to ferment fruit at cold temperatures to preserve freshness and allow an aromatic intensity to come out. Along with beautiful aromas, bold acidity also is present and makes the tastebuds water. Fresh and crisp fruit f ...

WINE REGION:
Columbia Valley
Sheltered by the rain shadow of the Cascade Mountains, Columbia Valley is home to the majority of Washington's vineyards. Cool nights keep zippy acidity in the grapes, while long daylight hours give the fruit plenty of chance to ripen. This results in full-bodied Merlot, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon and deeply concentrated Syrah. White wines are just as tantalizing, with toasty oak-touched Chardonnay and ripe stone fruit-flavored Riesling taking the spotlight. Sub-AVAs to look out for are Yakima Valley and Walla Walla. The Columbia Valley is one of the only appellations in the United States to occupy vineyards in two states, as it crosses the Oregon border in the southern part of the valley.

Fruit-forward and bright, this is a classic. Wet stone minerality complements crisp tree fruit flavors of red apple and Asian pear along with a hint of perfectly ripe honeydew melon. Varietal signature bold and bright acidity coats the palate, making the tastebuds water for another glass.
