Torres
Penedès, Spain
A classic Spanish wine that should be a part of your cellar
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Torres
Mas La Plana Cabernet Sauvignon
The first vintage of this wine dates back to 1970; in its beginnings, the wines included small quantities of Tempranillo, but the main variety was always Cabernet Sauvignon. In this small vineyard, only the most select Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are grown. These are used to make strictly limited quantities of Torres' most prestigious red wine, now known to connoisseurs all over the world. In the Paris Wine Olympiad, the 1970 vintage triumphed over some of the most famous wines in the world, including some of the best from Bordeaux. This success has been repeated on several other occasions, with Gran Coronas Mas La Plana notching up numerous other international awards for its juicy red flavors.
Due to state registrations, we cannot ship this wine to AL, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MO, NJ, NV, NY, OH, PA, SD, TX, VT, WA.ABOUT THIS WINE

Penedès
Rising from the Mediterranean Sea like a stepladder, northeast Spain's mountainous Penedès region has three microclimates, ranging from warm to cool. While this means the region can produce an eclectic selection of red and white wines, Penedès is mainly known for one thing—cava. Made in the labor-intensive "traditional method" like champagne, Spain's signature sparkling wine is produced using the local grape varieties Macabeo, Xarel·lo and Parellada. In this budget-friendly alternative to France's famous fizz, you'll enjoy flavors of almond, lime and yellow apple, making it a great choice for Mexican food. The DO (Denominación de Origen) category within Spain’s wine classifications is the largest portion within the country’s pyramid of quality. Wines are approved to be at DO status when they meet a handful of standards related to authorized varietals, production size, methods within winemaking and aging restrictions. Additionally, appellations must have been recognized for a minimum of five years in order to be considered to be a DO.

TASTING NOTES:
Coffee
Vanilla
Blueberry
Intense, dark cherry red. Exquisite black fruit aromas of blueberry jam with toasty roasted coffee and spicy vanilla, black pepper undertones. The palate is expressive, powerful, with serious, austere tannins—very characteristic of Cabernet Sauvignon—that gradually meld in the mouth with long, flavorful persistence.

ABOUT THE BRAND:
Torres
Ever since its origins in 1870, Familia Torres has combined tradition and innovation to become a benchmark winery in the quality wine and brandies sector. Together with his brother Miguel, Jaime Torres Vendrell founded the company and built the winery in front of the Vilafranca del Penedès railway station. They come from a family of winegrowers whose origins date back to 1678. The Torres wineries are harmoniously integrated into Pacs del Penedès grounds, which is the perfect place for winemaking and aging. The best wines continue their natural cycle at the Waltraud winery, in a unique atmosphere created exclusively for them. The darkness of the aging chambers and the silence makes for the ideal environment for them to rest and slowly evolve in oak and in the bottle.
