You can eat and drink like a king here—ideally on a grand terrazza overlooking medieval hillsides strewn with olive and cypress trees. Sangiovese is the region's star grape, giving us not just Chianti, but also Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the epic Super Tuscan blends. The IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) classification system was created to provide more freedom and ease for winemaking within Italy. Wines under the IGT classification are regulated on the region of origin—where within the country grapes are grown—instead of varietals or wine styles as DOC and DOCG laws focus on.
