Taste a 96 point offering from one of the oldest Riesling wineries in the world
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Schloss Johannisberg
Grünlack Spätlese Riesling
This is a wine that is rich and fragrant with a bewitching bouquet full of tangerines, stone, and spicy flint with lime blossoms. On the palate, it's lush with acidity that is perfect for the other flavors. There are hints of wild herbs that offer a tinge of something hard to describe, but what keeps you coming back is the balance. It's elegant and sensual while still being accessible.
NOTE: This is NOT a Firstleaf Exclusive Wine and is not eligible for discounts, member pricing, or member guarantee. Limited Availability.

Rheingau
Germany's most famous wine region, the small but mighty Rheingau has built its stellar reputation on its delightfully dry Riesling. Thanks to the south-facing aspect of the Rhine Valley's slopes here—plus the shelter provided by the Taunus hills—the Rheingau's vineyards enjoy a unique mesoclimate that helps grapes ripen perfectly. As a result, these medium- to full-bodied white wines often display satisfying flavors of ripe peach. Fans of red wine should also look out for its Pinot Noir (known locally as Spätburgunder), which usually comes from vineyards near the village of Assmannhausen.

ABOUT THE BRAND:
Schloss Johannisberg
Few wine enthusiasts probably realize that with every sip of Riesling from Schloss Johannisberg, they are enjoying the legacy of nearly 1,200 years of history that involves a monastery and a palace — both of which have a great wine history. The first documented wine harvest was in A.D. 817. Louis the Pious was delighted with the 6,000 liters of wine from the vines on the hill, then known as Bischofsberg (bishop’s hill). Nearly three centuries later (circa 1100), the first Benedictine monastery in the Rheingau was founded on the hilltop and the monks diligently tended the vines on the slopes below. It is thanks to their efforts that Schloss Johannisberg is justifiably the first Riesling wine estate in the world.
