Vermentino
Sicilians have been making wine for thousands of years, and our 2020 Vermentino was grown on the same beautiful sloping hillsides that produced wine when Caesar ruled Rome. The Mediterranean Sea provides such a perfect climate for viticulture that we use the word 'Mediterranean' to describe any similar climate around the world. The wine is fresh and new, but our winemaking is decidedly Old World. But enough about the history — this wine is present, and it's going places. The previous vintage earned 90 points and a Gold Medal at the 2021 San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge. Terre Siciliane IGT
Italy's Terre Siciliane covers wines made across the island of Sicily—including its satellite islands of Salina, Pantelleria and Stromboli. The wines can be still or sparkling, red, white or rosé, dry or sweet, and made from such grape varieties as Sangiovese, Catarratto and Vermentino. Whatever the style, Terre Siciliane wines benefit from the natural features of this southern Italian region. Sicily's abundant sunshine, mineral-rich soils, coastal breezes and drying African winds help it produce exceptional grapes that transfer into wines of character and expression. The IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) classification system was created to provide more freedom and ease for winemaking within Italy. Wines under the IGT classification are regulated on the region of origin—where within the country grapes are grown—instead of varietals or wine styles as DOC and DOCG laws focus on.
