Riesling Auslese

Riesling is by far the most important and prestigious grape of the Mosel, grown on approximately 60% of the region’s vineyard land—typically on the desirable sites that provide the best combination of sunlight, soil type, and altitude. Named for the historic sundial painted on an outcrop of slate by a Prüm ancestor back in 1842, the incredibly steep Wehlener Sonnenuhr vineyard is a renowned source of what is arguably Germany’s finest Riesling. The wine is highly aromatic with flowers, citrus, and citrus pith. The nose keeps opening up. Pairs as easily with spicy food as it does with cheese and charcuterie.

NOTE: This is NOT a Firstleaf Exclusive Wine and is not eligible for discounts, member pricing, or member guarantee. Limited Availability.

Due to state registrations, we cannot ship this wine to AL, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MO

WINE REGION:

Outline of Mosel

Mosel

When it comes to quality Riesling, few places can rival Germany's Mosel region. This sheer-sided valley in Germany parallels the river of the same name and is home to some of the world's steepest vineyards. Riesling grown here is prized throughout the world for its slight sweetness, perfectly balanced by crisp acidity and aromatic floral perfume. Notes of green fruit and Meyer lemon add to the pleasant tang, with mineral touches of wet slate, beeswax and—in some aged examples—even petroleum too. It is all thanks to Mosel's very cool climate. Temperatures in the summer often don't even rise above 65 degrees. This allows for a long growing season, concentrating flavors and creating beautiful acidity.
