ABOUT THIS WINE:

Royal Tokaji

Royal Tokaji

Gold Label 6 Puttonyos Aszu

With a heritage as fine as the Royal Tokaji, it's okay to expect a lot from a wine. With 6 puttonyos of sugar (which means that this is considered a conventionally sweet wine as opposed to semi-sweet or dry) this is a wine that you should take your time with. This is the 14th vintage of Red Label since the company’s founding in 1990. With even a bit more sugar than the 5 Puttonyos wine, this wine is sweet, yet it’s also deeply savory, with marzipan, mushroom, and ferrous mineral tones packed around the honeyed peach flavor. Acidity keeps it brisk and clean, ready to pair with a cheese plate.

NOTE: This is NOT a Firstleaf Exclusive Wine and is not eligible for discounts, member pricing, or member guarantee. 500mL. Limited Availability.

Due to state registrations, we cannot ship this wine to AL, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, MD, ME, MI, MO, NJ, NV

WINE REGION:

Outline of Tokaj

Tokaj

Home to the lusciously sweet and long-aging Tokaji Aszú dessert wine, the Tokaj region is becoming equally well known today for its high-quality dry whites. Located in northeastern Hungary, hilly Tokaj has a warm climate with volcanic-clay soils, and sits at the confluence of two rivers. While the soils of Tokaj allow winemakers to craft mineral-rich dry whites from the Furmint grape, with its two rivers and long, balmy autumns, Tokaj vineyards also have the ability to develop botrytis, or "noble rot." This unique fungus is the key to great sweet wines, as it concentrates sugars and brings about a sublime honeyed character.

Royal Tokaji

The Tokaj region lies 240 km north-east of Budapest, Hungary, in the Zemplen Mountains. Tokaji is the world's original sweet white wine. The Tokaji wine region also has the distinction of being the first in Europe to be classified. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company, founded in Hungary in 1990, has become one of the most defining wineries in Tokaj. From the outset, Royal Tokaji decided to concentrate on producing single-vineyard wines, made from the first growth vineyards of Mézes Mály, Nyulászó, Szt. Tamás and Betsek. Acknowledged as one of the region's top winemakers, combining traditional techniques with modern technology to create the award-winning Royal Tokaji range of wines. Royal Tokaji is the acknowledged leader of the renaissance of this legendary Hungarian wine, which, in the words of the wine author and company co-founder Hugh Johnson, is "a wine that would make angels sing out loud in praise."
