ABOUT THIS WINE:

Penrose Hill

Penrose Hill

Chardonnay

When it comes to American Chardonnay, it doesn’t get better than this. Our lush and fruit-forward wine hails from America’s single best region for growing Burgundian grapes. The cool, foggy climate of the Russian River Valley, a renowned viticultural area in the heart of California’s Sonoma County, nurtures Chardonnay grapes into something with no equal in the nation. Once the grapes are picked early, they’re hand-sorted, gently pressed and aged in French oak barrels for 10 months before bottling. Scroll through the image carousel above to learn more about this wine.

WINE REGION:

Outline of Russian River Valley

Russian River Valley

Prized for its elegant Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Sonoma's Russian River Valley is one of California's premier AVAs for cool-climate wines. Blessed with the Petaluma Gap—a break in the coastal mountains where chill, foggy air blows in from the Pacific—the valley also benefits from the effects of the Russian River itself. This draws cool Pacific Ocean air inland and creates blanketing fogs that veil the vineyards throughout the chilly mornings. The result is one of the state's longest and coolest growing seasons. Bracing acidity and complex flavors characterize wines from this region, which also includes excellent sparklers made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
