Eighteen small, independently family-owned vineyard sites come together in this gorgeous display of Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir. From the cool-climate charm of their Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir to their sought-after single-vineyard bottlings from the Russian River Valley, Carneros, Mendocino, and the Santa Lucia Highlands, their Pinot Noir program captures the vibrant diversity of this exceptional varietal. In the winery, they craft wines that balance the depth, power, and purity of Pinot Noir with elegance, structure, and finesse. This wine is full of rich fruit and complex secondary and tertiary notes.

Stretching along California's raw and rugged northern shores—and reaching quite far inland—Sonoma Coast is the largest AVA in Sonoma County. The proximity to the ocean makes wines here very different from those from more central AVAs. Whether the vineyards are on high ridges above the fog line or warm, fog-shrouded valley floors, the marine soils, low temperatures and cool Pacific breezes slow the ripening of the grapes. The result? Highly structured, delicate wines with plenty of acidity. The main stars here are white peach-tinged Chardonnay and wild strawberry-flavored Pinot Noir, but you will also find some excellent cool-climate Syrah with notes of white pepper and cherry.

An approachable Pinot Noir with fine-grained tannins, freshness, and purity. Intense aromas of Bing cherry, strawberry, carnation flowers, and licorice notes pour from the glass. Though nicely dense on the palate, the wine avoids heaviness with fresh acidity and bright red fruit flavors that resolve on a long, detailed finish.

The seeds for Patz & Hall were planted in the 1980s when assistant winemaker James Hall and national sales manager Donald Patz struck up a close friendship while working together at Flora Springs Winery and Vineyards. The two discovered a mutual enthusiasm for a rich and compelling style of wine made by applying traditional winemaking techniques to fruit from elite, small vineyards. Together, they turned Patz & Hall into one of California’s most highly regarded wineries with a celebrated portfolio of single-vineyard wines. To achieve their goal of making exceptional limited-production wines from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, the founders focused their specialized knowledge and expertise on different areas of the winery’s operations. This integrated approach, along with a commitment to developing close personal relationships with many of California’s finest growers, became the cornerstones of the winery’s success.
