ABOUT THIS WINE:

Old Quarter

Old Quarter

Syrah

With hot days and cool nights, Mendoza, Argentina is an ideal growing location for a grape like Syrah. However, you rarely see the varietal as a stand-alone wine from the region which makes this beautiful bottle incredibly special. Hailing from a location surrounded by Malbec, the sandy soils and little rain in the area force vines to work harder during the growing season, allowing fruit to develop intense flavors and pull characteristics from the region’s terroir. This wine is rich and soft. Dark fruit flavors take over the palate and perfumey florals jump out of the glass. It is deep in color and has approachable tannins that round out each sip. Perfect to pair with bold dishes off the grill.

WINE REGION:

Outline of Mendoza

Mendoza

Mendoza is the heart of Argentinian wine production. It was here where a previously little-known French grape variety called Malbec became a global superstar. With its extreme altitudes and Andean climate, Mendoza nurtures its vineyards in dramatic sun-drenched plateaus set against snow-capped peaks. At these elevations, the intense UV light ripens grapes in a unique way, working with the cold mountain air to create gloriously supple and expressive wines with bold yet brightly aromatic fruit. Mendoza's high-quality varietals from Bonarda, Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are also notable, as are its fine Torrontés, Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from sub-regions such as Maipú, Luján de Cuyo and the Uco Valley.
