Messer Del Fauno
Puglia, Italy
A velvety, delicate expression of Sangiovese from winemaker Sabino Russo
ABOUT THIS WINE:
Messer Del Fauno
Sangiovese
Southern Italy is a beautiful place. All along the coast of Puglia, there are windswept landscapes, sandstone buildings, and the scent of herbs and flowers mingling on the breeze. It’s a beautiful place to be and a beautiful place to make wine. The vines from Messer Del Fauno thrive among the cherry trees and take nourishment from the land to produce wines that are rich and deep in flavor. This vintage shows ripe cherry and a savory finish with just a hint of spice. We think it’s a great introduction to the Sangiovese grape.

Puglia
The heel of Italy's "boot," sunny Puglia (the "g" is silent), is famed for its olive oils, almonds and of course, its rich, full-bodied wines. Although dry and intensely hot in the summer, Puglia has coastlines on three sides, providing cool Mediterranean breezes to alleviate the daytime heat. Primitivo (known in the US as Zinfandel) does well here, with other popular red varieties including Sangiovese and Negroamaro. But it is not all about reds in Puglia: the local Fiano grape produces gloriously nutty, tropical-flavored white, while Falanghina makes intensely fruity wines with citrus blossom notes.
