Riesling

The dream of Adriana Cerda, famed Chilean enologist and celebrated winemaker of 30 years, this critically acclaimed vineyard (Wine & Spirits, James Suckling Report) uses dry farming methods to grow the aromatic white grape often associated with Germany. Riesling can be quite expressive of Chilean terroir - rich with clays, sand and minerals on a calcareous layer - and is well-suited to the Maule Valley’s long growing season, cool nights and warm, dry days. The small vineyard of 13 sandy hectares is cooled by a soft sea breeze from the nearby Pacific to enable a slow and luxurious ripening of the grapes. Rated 90 points by Robert Parker, Meli’s Riesling is unoaked with no residual sugar, showcasing the grape’s brisk acidity. Almost alive with freshness, it has a high intensity of fruit flavors. The winery produces only about 500 cases of this rare gem.

Chile

In recent years, Chile has increasingly produced incredible wines of exceptional value. With a setting influenced by the Andes Mountains, the Pacific Ocean, the Atacama Desert and even Antarctica, Chile is a diverse land with rocky foothills, lush valley floors and cool coastal zones. Chile gained international renown for its New World take on classic Bordeaux varieties. Interestingly, it's an obscure red Bordeaux variety—Carménère—that has become Chile's signature grape. But other Old World varieties do equally well in Chile; Pinot Noir, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay have all become mainstays of Chilean wine, exhibiting impressive levels of quality and balance in the country's distinct terroirs.
