ABOUT THIS WINE:
Markham
The Altruist Red Blend
The 2017 Markham Vineyard's sustainably made, The Altruist, is a "right bank" Bordeaux-style red blend that allows the velvety Merlot flavors to shine. With a varietal composition of 68% Merlot, 16% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot, 5% Malbec, and 5% Cabernet Franc. Predominately estate-grown, the 40th vintage saw perfect harvest weather and incredible quality. Crafted by Markham Winemaker Kimberley Nicholls, "The Altruist" label features the Markham Cannoneer. As a US Navy veteran, founder Bruce Markham depicted a cannoneer from a treasured bronze sculpture on his first Markham Vineyards label in 1978. It is a symbol that stands for the people, land, and values that make up Markham's past and present.

Napa Valley
Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
