ABOUT THIS WINE:

Markham

Merlot

The 2017 Markham Merlot is a true Napa Valley blend of vineyards! Their estate vineyards provide the backbone for the blend, totaling almost 60% of this bottling. Merlot from the Oak Knoll District gives sour cherry character, while the Yountville components provide the classic Bing cherry aromas and flavors for which their Merlot is known. The jammy notes come from blending in warmer up-valley fruit. The fruit has matured in flavor and color evenly, leaving any vegetal hints behind. The wines are sent to barrels as individual lots to mature, allowing for a greater understanding of the direct impact of viticultural and fermentation practices on each vintage. The resulting wine is delicious, lush, and complex.

NOTE: This is NOT a Firstleaf Exclusive wine.

Due to state registrations, we cannot ship this wine to AL, AZ, CO, GA, IA, ID, IL, IN, KS, KY, M

WINE REGION:

Outline of Napa Valley

Napa Valley

Napa gained international acclaim following the Judgement of Paris in 1976, when its wines defeated its French counterparts in a blind tasting. Napa's signature wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and various Bordeaux blends, but many other varieties, such as Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc also thrive here. With 16 sub-AVAs and a Mediterranean climate with rich geology, Napa is a winemaker's dream. The winegrowing region runs between the Mayacamas Mountains and Vaca Mountains for 30 miles, from Calistoga to Los Carneros. Napa has a wide array of soil types for such a small region, from volcanic foothills to alluvial valley floors, which help to produce varied and complex wines.
