ABOUT THIS WINE:

Maiden's Delight

Maiden's Delight

Pecorino

Pecorino is an ancient variety that likely originated in the Sibillini Mountains of Italy growing on wild grape vines, but over time it was domesticated and used for production. The history of the wine is so deep that scientists are still guessing at where the name came from. It is likely from the Italian word "pecora", meaning sheep, but despite the name, there is no direct link between the Pecorino grape and pecorino cheese. The Maiden’s Delight is yellow with green edges and has an incredible nose. The white, pulpy fruits and tropical notes blend to make a vibrant wine. We think that the wine will pair beautifully with fish tacos, fresh oysters, or even a light risotto. Judges love the freshness of this wine too and sent it home from the 2019 Denver International Wine Competition with a Silver medal!

WINE REGION:

Outline of Terre di Chieti IGT

Terre di Chieti IGT

A small appellation within central Italy’s Abruzzo region, Terre di Chieti is nestled in the foothills and is home to both red and white varietals. Thanks to influences from the nearby Adriatic Sea, the region experiences a traditional Mediterranean climate. Unlike many of its counterparts throughout the country, wines from Terre di Chieti are not subject to the governance of DOC or DOCG restrictions—rather, they are subject to the IGT/IGP classification, which is simply a focus on geography. Because of this, winemakers have extreme flexibility in how they go about producing their wines. The IGT (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) classification system was created to provide more freedom and ease for winemaking within Italy. Wines under the IGT classification are regulated on the region of origin—where within the country grapes are grown—instead of varietals or wine styles as DOC and DOCG laws focus on.
