ABOUT THIS WINE:

Le Coq Gaulois

Le Coq Gaulois

Bordeaux Blend

The name Bordeaux has long been synonymous with red wine. The main geographic feature of this port town is the Garronne River that flows into the Atlantic. The river's location helped cement the region as one of the most important shipping and trade centers in the wine world. To the west of the river is the "Left Bank," where Cabernet Sauvignon thrives in its optimal growing conditions. And to the east of the river is the “Right Bank” of Bordeaux, where Merlot thrives in the clay and limestone soil. Harvested from these vineyards, Le Coq Gaulois (“The Gallic Rooster,” a long-standing symbol of French heritage) shows an easier, softer drinking side of Bordeaux.

The Merlot grape offers up generous aromas and flavors of ripe red and black cherries in this wine, bolstered by the structure and herbaceous aromas of smaller amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Baked plum ...

WINE REGION:

Outline of Bordeaux

Bordeaux

Probably the world's most famous wine region, Bordeaux is a true powerhouse of French quality. While Bordeaux is home to some of the country's most expensive bottles, it is also possible to find great-value wines from small producers. Almost all red and white wines from Bordeaux are blends. Reds tend to be a mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. But just as important as the blends are the quality of the region's terroir and unique winemaking techniques. The Bordeaux region is divided by the Gironde River into two main parts. Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme on the Left Bank, while Merlot dominates the Right Bank. White wines are usually a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.
