ABOUT THIS WINE:

Izak's 177

Izak's 177

Cabernet Sauvignon

Our Izak’s 177 Cabernet Sauvignon is a delicious example of a classic grape variety thriving in a New World region. With ripe red fruit flavors and sturdy, well-balanced textures, this wine embodies the beauty of the Western Cape. After planting the country’s first vines during the mid-1600s, it did not take long for winemakers to realize the vast potential that could be found in South African soils. French native Cabernet Sauvignon has dominated red grape plantings in the Western Cape since its arrival there, thriving in the region’s diverse climate and abundant sunshine. The surrounding oceans govern growing conditions with cool offshore currents and powerful summer winds. These conditions are responsible for the ripeness and varietal freshness that make South African Cabernet so desirable. With our Izak’s 177, we invite you to experience this sought-after style and share its story ...

Raspberry

On the nose, you are greeted with oak-influenced aromas of vanilla followed by a touch of fresh herbs. A medium-bodied palate presents modest acidity backed by sturdy tannic structure where plump raspberry and redcurrant flavors shine. While fruit flavors are prevalent, this wine remains dry and textural with a food-friendly finish.

ABOUT THE BRAND:

Izak's 177

Cape Town native Abraham Izak Perold played a significant role in his country’s rich wine history. After graduating from Victoria College in Stellenbosch, he traveled to Germany to obtain his Ph.D. in Chemistry. Upon graduating, Perold toured Europe, where he became fluent in many languages and familiarized himself with the historic wines of various Old World regions. Not long after his return to Cape Town in 1906, Perold was approached by the South African government; they requested he return to Europe, this time with the task of seeking out new grape varieties that could potentially thrive in South African soils. Perold returned to his home country with 177 varieties. Each of our Izak’s 177 wines is an exquisite local expression of its varietal. Our collection offers a glimpse into the history of South African wine and the boundless potential of Old World grape varieties in this New World wine region.
